Have you ever felt a pang of disappointment when the food you’ve ordered at a restaurant has been served in the least practical way possible?  While, of course, you don’t want your meal to look like it has been slopped on a plate, you equally don’t want eating to be exhausting either.

Take a look at our pick of the most impractical ways to serve food:

Fish and Chips in a Fryer Basket

Hats off to them for thinking outside the box, but the fryer basket is completely pointless. Imagine trying to cut up the fish while it’s in the basket; it’s hard work just thinking about it!

In order to eat this with ease, the fish and chips will have to be tipped out of the basket and onto the board. Then you’ll need to find space on the table for the basket, unless you manage to flag down the server to take it back to the kitchen. Sounds a bit of a faff, right? Fish and chips on a plate will do nicely.

Gravlax on a Mason Jar

We can’t get our heads around this one. Not only is it extremely impractical, it’s dangerous too. Gravlax is a Nordic dish that should be served on toast, crackers or directly on a plate, but never on a mason jar!

To further add to the confusion of this presentation, the dish doesn’t look even slightly appealing on a mason jar. Impractical, dangerous and unappetising can only mean two big thumbs down; a foodie faux pas at its best.

Dessert in a Kilner Jar

While kilner jars have become quite the trend for alternative uses, we see no sense in them being used to serve desserts.

Does this dessert need a lid? No. In fact, it looks slightly shambolic. This dessert would look a thousand times better served on a plate or in a bowl, don’t you think?
