street-food-packaging-solutions

Here in Britain our trendy new street food markets may utilise paper plates, cardboard boxes and plastic cups, but what do the authentic street food markets around the world use? From Bangkok to Cape Town, Delhi to Barcelona, we’ll take a look at street food packaging solutions from more exotic climes:

Or Tor Kor Market, Bangkok, Thailand

For the taste of something new, head to the centre of Bangkok where you’re sure to see foods you never knew even existed. As a one stop shop for everything you could ever need to make traditional Thai dishes and modern cuisine alike, you’re sure to be fascinated by the exotic fruits neatly wrapped on a paper plate for freshness. And the durians in paper look especially tasty.

Chandni Chowk, Delhi, India

This bustling, urban street market is extremely popular with tourists and locals alike. Visitors here can expect a sit down meal off thali plates at one of the many food vendors’ stalls; or you can enjoy something spicy on the move, devoured from a foil plate, washed down with a traditional kullhad cup (a handle-less terracotta cup) of something creamy.

Neighbourgoods Market, Cape Town and Johannesburg, South Africa

A modern foodie’s dream, Neighbourgoods has quirky food stalls serving up tasty treats such as red velvet cakes in jars and banderole covered churros. Make sure to check out the grease-proof covered veggie wraps too!

La Boqueria, Barcelona, Spain

Nestled off the famous Ramblas high street that joins the city of Barcelona to the golden beach, La Boqueria is a colour explosion and a real delight for the senses. Here you’ll find plastic cups of smoothies and fruit salads, plus paper cones of smoky, cured meats to tantalise your tastebuds.

Mercado Municipal, Sao Paulo, Brazil

From clear tanks of colourful olives to stacked fruit pyramids and wicker baskets, the food stalls here are all about inviting the customer in and attracting them with bright and tasty looking treats which are simply packed for enjoying on the move.

Castries Market, St. Lucia

There’s nowhere better to experience true island-life than at Castries Market. It has been running in the same orange-roofed building in the nation’s capital since 1894 and is the ideal place to pick up some exotic fruits and spices.

Here they have all of the usual street food packaging ideas, but they’re big on reusing items too. Plenty of the stalls will have large glass bottles for keeping ingredients like cinnamon fresh.
