Waste is a universal problem that is being dealt with as we speak. Somewhere, someone is working on a solution to the world’s waste. What it is we don’t yet know, but we can make a few educational guesses!

Here’s what we, as expert packaging suppliers, believe the future of this industry will be:

Future-of-packaging

Less is More

Excessive material is the quickest way to unnecessary waste and it’s something that can be very easily avoided. This is something that’s already coming in now and we are likely to see a lot more of in the future. Using packaging that is perfectly tailored to the size of your products will cut down on the materials you use and the amount of waste generated as a result of this.

Sustainable Packaging

Once you’ve cut down the amount of packaging you’re using till you can’t cut it down any more, the next step will be creating it from sustainable materials. You’ll already see biodegradable packaging materials being used across the industry, but this will expand even further in the future and we’ll probably see new types of materials being used.

New Materials

Arguably the biggest changes are the ones that have yet to be invented. We can expect to see a wide range of new materials being created to target the problem with waste materials. These are likely to be completely biodegradable, ethically sourced and made using sustainable materials. It could also be something completely new that hasn’t even been thought of yet – how exciting is that?

Multi-Purpose

One of the best ways of eliminating waste is by making it into something practical instead. There are already moves towards this by some companies, but we wouldn’t be at all surprised to see it happening across the board. Perhaps there will be packaging that doubles as a rain coat or a tent or cutlery or something else that will be used rather than thrown away.

Packaging Redesign

Future-of-packaging

While we may be accustomed to the ‘standard’ design of bottles and cartons, are they really the most efficient and effective type of packaging available? Chances are there are things that can, and will, be done to streamline these types of packaging to get the most from them. This could completely change the face of any food and drink industry, creating a new standard and making current packaging solutions redundant.

Packaging Made of Air

It’s the future, why not? It could be that packaging materials as we know them are completely eliminated by futuristic technology, like using air as a form of packaging. We don’t know who it will work or if it will work or how you’d even start to make this a reality, we’re just saying it could happen! Who knows?

At Charlotte Packaging we do everything possible to keep up with the changes in the industry, investing in a range of new packaging materials and informing our clients of biodegradable and sustainable packaging solutions that they could use. As experienced food packaging suppliers, we have a good understanding of how the industry is changing and can ensure you use the best packaging possible to futureproof your products.
